Unruly Phonics Rules: Book One
Making Sense of Reading and Spelling English This first book covers only two things: short vowels A E I O and U and blends. As far as "unruly" rules of phonics, the unpredictable thing is, that the short vowels don't say their own names. All the long vowels say their own names, but the short vowels make funny little unsustainable noises. The hardest one is the vowel O. So for the beginning reader, knowing that this shape (O) is an O isn't as important as knowing it says: "awe". BLENDS Blends are not hard to teach. See the book called: "The Spot Museum" |
